TEACHING

DSC00424.jpeg

Kaitlyn currently maintains a private studio in the Dallas area, teaching all levels and ages of woodwind students. In-person and virtual lessons are available! She formerly served as Artist Affiliate Faculty of Clarinet at MidAmerica Nazarene University and a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas, teaching undergraduate applied clarinet lessons.

In my teaching, I believe it's important to strive for a well-rounded musical education so I incorporate music theory, history, and pedagogy into the lessons. In terms of repertoire, it is important to work on our fundamental mastery of the instrument through technical exercises, etudes, and exploring music in various genres and styles of music. Lessons are structured in a collaborative effort between the student and I on how to approach their own musical goals. Through this personalized instruction of consistent feedback, dialogue, and goal setting, I provide the students with a comprehensive educational experience.

Above all, I believe it’s important to create a safe learning environment and celebrate diversity among the students. With an inclusive space, built on mutual respect, students do their most effective learning and develop confidence to do their best creative work.
